After a noticeably bumpy road, Samsung is finally pushing out the stable One UI 7.0 update – based on Android 15 – to a wider range of its Galaxy devices. It’s been a wait filled with disappointment for many Samsung users, stemming from initial delays and a bug that forced a temporary halt to the rollout for the Galaxy S24 series. It's understandable why some users have been hesitant to believe promises of a swift update, but progress *is* being made.

Galaxy S23 Series Gets the Green Light

The Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra are now receiving the update, starting in South Korea. If you’re rocking one of these phones and you're in South Korea, you can check for it now under Settings » Software update » Download and install. The download size varies: approximately 1GB for those who participated in the beta program, and a heftier 5GB for everyone else. Importantly, the update also bundles the April 2025 security patch, providing the latest protections for your device.

Samsung has officially closed the One UI 7.0 Beta Program for the S23 series, meaning the stable release is now the focus. The expectation is that the update will expand beyond South Korea "within the next few days" – potentially later this week.

What's New in One UI 7.0?

This update isn’t just about security patches; it's a significant redesign of the user interface. Expect to see:

  • New App Icons: A fresh aesthetic for your home screen.
  • Widget Styling: Improved and more customizable widgets.
  • Expanded Widget Options: Many new widgets for both the home screen and lock screen.
  • Smoother Animations and Transitions: A more polished and responsive user experience.
  • Revised Battery Icon & Charging Animation: Subtle visual tweaks to enhance usability.
  • Enhanced Galaxy AI Features: Improvements and potentially new AI-powered capabilities.

Expanding to More Devices & A Revised Schedule

The rollout isn’t stopping with the S23 series. The Galaxy S24 FE, Galaxy Tab S10 series, and Galaxy Tab S9 series are also now receiving One UI 7.0 in South Korea as of today. Like the S23 update, it’s around 5GB in size and includes the April 2025 security patch.

Here's a look at Samsung's revised rollout schedule:

A Troubled Rollout, but Progress is Being Made

It's fair to say Samsung's handling of the One UI 7 rollout hasn’t been smooth. The initial bug that caused issues unlocking phones after the update understandably frustrated early adopters. Samsung acknowledged the problem and paused the rollout to address it. The fact that they've now resumed and are expanding to more devices is a positive sign.

Although the update is currently limited to South Korea, expansion to other regions seems imminent. It’s a relief for Samsung users who have been eagerly awaiting these improvements, and hopefully, the rest of the rollout will proceed without further hiccups.
